About

This started as a play on something I was accused of in college: “Shellie, you are so reckless but you stay hopeful that it will all work out.”

Hopefully reckless. What’s the worst that could happen? (an actual life motto of mine)

Maturity, (re)building, love and healing have all taught me that I can be recklessly hopeful instead of hopefully reckless.

I am a worshipper of Ann Patchett, Ann Lammott and Joan Didion, so putting words to screen/paper/existence is a natural right and creative compulsion. This blog answered many days’ inquiry: “How do I get this out of me and somewhere else?”

I seek to humanize the voices within us all that speak to a larger truth or connective tissue through raw authenticity and reckless hope.

In a world increasingly divided, I want to share Christ’s ever-solid acceptance and call to peace.

As a yogi, I live by the 8 limbs. Practice provides space for growth without the expectation of perfection or outcome.

As a recovering codependent, I know that “do the next right thing” will save me every time I get stuck.

I am a native of <far> Northern California – think mountains and streams, not cities and beaches – and a forever-dreaming creative. I was always drawing, humming, dancing and reading to build escape hatches in my everyday life. By profession, I am an English professor, yoga teacher, and wellness retreat coordinator. Motherhood brought me 3 sons, and love brought me an Air Force Serviceman. I am a late-in-life military wife, embarking on our first PCS to Germany as of late-December 2024. Thank you for being here & sharing my story.
